NYC College Line Privacy Policy

The following Privacy Policy applies to users (each, a "User") of the website ("Site") and is intended to explain what information is gathered from users and how that information is used. This policy governs the manner in which Graduate NYC! collects, uses, maintains, and discloses information collected from Users. It applies to the Site and all products and services offered by the Site.

Graduate NYC! is committed to respecting your privacy. As an unregistered user, you can visit most of the Site without revealing any personal information. However, in order to personalize your view of the Site and gain access to certain information systems, you must register and provide some personal information. We do not collect any personal information about you unless you provide that information voluntarily. Any personal information you choose to provide us will only be used by Graduate NYC! to conduct official Graduate NYC! business. Graduate NYC! does not sell, rent, loan, trade, or lease personal information collected on this site.

For purposes of this policy, ''personal information'' means any information concerning a natural person which, because of name, number, symbol, mark or other identifier, can be used to identify that natural person.

To protect your privacy and prevent unauthorized login, please keep your IDs and passwords in a secure place. Also, whenever you use the Site from a public workstation, be sure to log out of the Site and close all web browser windows before you leave the public workstation.

  1. Personal identification information
    1. We may collect personal identification information from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when Users visit the Site, register on the Site, subscribe to the newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form, and make use of other services, features, or resources we make available on the Site. Users may visit our Site anonymously; we will collect personal identification information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information to us.  Users may be asked for their email address. However, Users will never be asked for their full name.  The only opportunity for Users to provide their full name is if they create a login name using both their first and last names, which is not recommended.  Users can always refuse to supply personal identification information, although it may prevent them from engaging in certain activities or services provided by the Site.
    2. If you send us an email, we will collect your email address and the contents of your message. We will use your email address and the information included in your message to respond to you, to address the issues about which you inquired, and to improve the Site. If you sign up for email notifications we may also use your email address to notify you about updates, services, special events, etc. If you would prefer not to receive email or other communications from the Site, contact us at

    4. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. You are cautioned, however, that we will treat personal information submitted in an email as though it were submitted by an adult; and it may, unless exempted from access by federal or state law, be subject to public access.
  2. Non-personal identification information
    1. We may collect non-personal identification information about Users whenever they interact with the Site. Non-personal identification information may include the browser name, type of computer, operating system, internet service providers utilized, and other technical information about Users’ means of connection to our Site.
    • The Google Analytics features NYC Collegeline has implemented is based on Display Advertising (e.g., Remarketing, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration, or Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting).

    • Visitors can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Ads Settings.

    • NYC Collegeline will not facilitate the merging of personally-identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information previously collected from Display Advertising features that is based on the DoubleClick cookie unless you have robust notice of, and the user's prior affirmative (i.e., opt-in) consent to, that merger. If you wish to hide all of your browsing behavior you can use Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

  3. Information Collected and Stored Automatically
    1. Web browser cookies
      1. A cookie is a piece of text placed on your computer by a web server. We occasionally use ''session'' cookies on some parts of the Site to enhance your experience of the Site and to help you move through it easily. Session cookies created on your computer by the Site’s servers do not contain personal information. We may use a session cookie to store a randomly generated identifying tag on your computer. Session cookies are temporary and are automatically deleted during operation of your browser or when your browser is closed.
      2. If you register on the Site, you will be asked for permission to store a ''persistent'' cookie on your computer's hard drive. This permanent cookie will allow the Site to recognize you and your access privileges when you visit again, and to tailor the information presented to you. The Site will use persistent cookies only with your permission.
      3. Most web browsers may be customized to refuse new cookies or delete existing cookies. Rejecting or deleting cookies may limit your ability to take advantage of some features of the Site and could result in the loss of any customized setting.
    2. Logs and Network Monitoring
      1. We maintain log files of all access to the Site and also monitor network traffic for purposes of Site management and security. We use this information to help diagnose problems with the server and to carry out other administrative tasks. We also use log analysis tools for such purposes as creating summary statistics to determine which information is of most interest to users, identifying system problem areas, and determining technical requirements. The following information is typically collected in these files:

        i.      the Internet Protocol address and domain name of your Internet Service Provider and/or computer, if your computer has an IP address assigned directly to it;

        ii.      the type of browser and operating system you use;

        iii.      the date and time you visited the Site;

        iv.      the web pages or services you accessed the Site and amount of time spent at each page; and

        v.      the web page from which you accessed the Site and from which any page on this site was linked.

      2. None of the foregoing information is deemed to constitute personal information by the New York State Internet Privacy and Security Act.
    3. How we use collected information
      1. The Site may collect and use Users’ personal information for the following purposes:

        i.      To serve user needs
        Information you provide helps us respond to your service requests and support needs more efficiently.
        ii.      To personalize user experience
        We may use information in the aggregate to understand how our Users as a group use the services and resources provided on our Site.
        iii.      To improve our Site
        We may use feedback you provide to improve our products and services.
        iv.      To run a promotion, contest, survey, or other Site feature
        To send Users information they agreed to receive about topics of interest to them.
        v.      To send periodic emails
        We may use the email address to respond to User inquiries, questions, and/or other requests. If Users decide to opt in to our mailing list, they will receive emails that may include Site news, updates, related products or service information, etc.  If at any time Users would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, they may do so by contacting us via our Site.

      2. In some cases we may collect or disclose personal information without your consent if the collection or disclosure is:

        i.      necessary to perform Graduate NYC's statutory duties or necessary to operate a program authorized by law, or authorized by state or federal statute or regulation;

        ii.      made pursuant to a court order or by law;

        iii.      for the purpose of validating your identity; or

        iv.      of information to be used solely for statistical purposes that is in a form that cannot be used to identify any particular person.

      3. Further, the disclosure of information, including personal information, collected through this website may be subject to the provisions of the U.S. Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act and New York State's Freedom of Information Law.
      4. We may also disclose personal information to federal or state law enforcement authorities to enforce Graduate NYC!’s rights against unauthorized access or attempted unauthorized access to Graduate NYC!’s information technology assets.
    4. How we protect your information
      1. We adopt appropriate data collection, storage, and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal information, username, password, transaction information, and data stored on our Site.
      2. We limit employee access to personal information collected through the Site to only those employees who need access to the information in the performance of their official duties. Employees who have access to this information follow appropriate procedures in connection with any disclosures of personal information.
      3. In addition, we have implemented procedures to safeguard the integrity of Graduate NYC!’s information technology assets, including, but not limited to, authentication, authorization, monitoring, auditing, and encryption. These security procedures have been integrated into the design, implementation, and day-to-day operations of the Site as part of our continuing commitment to the security of electronic content as well as the electronic transmission of information.
      4. For security purposes and to maintain the availability of the Site for all Users, we employ software to monitor traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise damage the Site.
    5. Sharing your personal information
      1. NYC College Line does not collect data for commercial or marketing purposes, and does not sell, exchange, or otherwise distribute the data collected by the Site for commercial or marketing purposes.  We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal identification information regarding Users with our partnering organizations for the purposes outlined above.
    6. Third party websites
      1. The Site contains links to, and may be linked from, sites outside of We are not responsible for the privacy practices, terms of use, or the content of third party web sites. A link to an outside web site from does not constitute an endorsement or sponsorship of such web site or its content.
    7. Changes to this Privacy Policy
      1. Graduate NYC! has the discretion to update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. We encourage Users to check this page frequently for any changes to stay informed about how we are ensuring that the personal information we collect is protected. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically and become aware of modifications.
    8. Your acceptance of these terms
      1. By using this Site, you signify your acceptance of this policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to this policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
