As you support your students through filing the 2015/2016 FAFSA, it is important to know whether they are dependent, independent or will need a dependency override. Knowing a student’s dependency status determines what information and documents are required to successfully complete and file the application.

On January 21, we were happy to have Jamal George, Trainer & College Access Counselor at Goddard Riverside's Options Center break down the FAFSA and dependency override process.

Topics discussed include:

  • Whose income goes on the FAFSA?
  • Who is considered dependent?
  • Who is considered automatically independent?
  • The dependency override: who is eligible and what is the process?
